Whip Stitch & Mattress Seam (seam) — crochet stitch tutorial
Attaching heads, ears, gussets and linings so nothing wobbles.
UK terminology: seam
How to work it
- Thread the yarn tail on a blunt tapestry needle.
- Whip stitch: catch one loop from each piece and pull snug, working around the join twice for load-bearing parts.
- Mattress seam: work through the vertical bars just inside the edge for a flat, nearly invisible join.
- Pin (or use locking stitch markers) before sewing so pieces stay symmetrical.
Tips
- Sew heads on with the same yarn used for the head, and go around the join twice.
