- hook: 2.5 mm
- gauge: 36-st round = about 8 cm across (estimate); work tightly enough that no stuffing shows

Notes
- Work every piece in a continuous spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round and move the marker up as you go.
- The body is one egg shape: the head is simply the narrower top, so there is no separate head to join.
- Safety eyes can be a choking hazard for children under 3. Embroider the eyes instead for any toy a small child will handle; embroidered eyes do not by themselves make a toy safe.

- Sew a flipper to each side at about the middle of the body, angled slightly down. (— sts)
- Sew a foot to the base at the front, under the belly patch, so the penguin sits upright. (— sts)
- If you are not using safety eyes, embroider two small eyes at the same place with black yarn. (— sts)
