Single Crochet (sc) — crochet stitch tutorial
A dense, sturdy stitch used in amigurumi and many structured bag bodies.
UK terminology: double crochet (dc)
How to work it
- Insert the hook into the next stitch (under both top loops).
- Yarn over, pull up a loop — 2 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over, pull through both loops. 1 sc made.
Tips
- For amigurumi work in continuous spirals (no join, no turning ch) and mark round 1 with a stitch marker, moving it up each round.
- Keep tension tight enough that you cannot see daylight through the fabric — stuffing must not peek out.
