Pattern
Sunflower motif
- With Cocoa: MR, ch 3, 11 dc into the ring, join to the top of the ch-3. Pull the ring closed. (12 dc sts)
- Ch 2 (not counted), 2 dc under both loops of each st around, join to the first dc. (24 dc sts)
- Change to Marigold. PETAL LAYER 1: [in the front loop of the next round-2 dc work (ch 1, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, ch 1), sl st in the front loop of the next dc] x12. Join, fasten off. (12 petals sts)
- PETAL LAYER 2: join Marigold in an unused back loop of a round-2 dc. Repeat the petal sequence across those same 24 back loops. Join, fasten off. (12 petals — 24 total; measure the finished motif sts)
- Centre texture (optional): with Cocoa, work a spiral of surface slip stitches over the round-1 disc for seed detail. (— sts)
Clutch body — Cream Yellow
One rectangle, 44 rows tall. Rows 1–28 are the body, folded in half at row 14 (back and front). Rows 29–44 are the flap.
- Ch 45. Hdc in the 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across; the skipped 2 ch do not count as a stitch. (43 hdc sts)
- Ch 2 (not counted), turn. Hdc in each st across. (43 sts)
- Repeat row 2 until you have 28 rows total — about 20 cm of fabric, forming two 10 cm panels at 14 rows per 10 cm. (43 hdc x 28 rows sts)
- Rows 29–31: continue in hdc, ch 2 (not counted) and turn each row, no shaping. (43 sts)
- Rows 32–44: ch 2 (not counted), turn each row. On rows 32, 36, 40 and 44 work hdc2tog at each end and hdc across between; on other rows work hdc across. Hdc2tog: yo, pull up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, yo through all 4 loops. (43 → 41 → 39 → 37 → 35 sts)
- Row 44 complete. Fasten off. (35 hdc sts)
Assemble
- Fold rows 1–28 in half (row 1 to row 28). Whip stitch both side edges closed, leaving the flap free. (— sts)
- Edging: with Marigold, sc evenly around the entire flap edge and the top opening. Work 3 sc in each flap corner. Join, fasten off. (— sts)
- Centre the sunflower on the flap and sew it down through the outer petal round only, so the petals stay lifted. (— sts)
- Sew the magnetic snap inside: one half under the flap tip, the other on the front panel. Optional: attach a chain strap at both side seams. (— sts)
