Pocket Bunny
The perfect first amigurumi: one sphere, one cone, four limbs, two long ears.
Amigurumi · Beginner · 5–6 hours · 17 cm tall sitting (ears up: 24 cm)
Yarn and tools
- weight: DK (CYC 3)
- fibre: Cotton or cotton-acrylic. Avoid fluffy yarn on a first project — you cannot see your stitches in it.
- amount: 60 g Cream, 15 g Petal Pink, scraps of Rose
- examples: Ricorumi DK (the amigurumi standard), Scheepjes Catona, Paintbox Cotton DK
- hook: 2.5 mm — deliberately smaller than the label so stuffing cannot show through
- gauge: A 6-round disc (36 sc) measures 6.5 cm across; the head sphere is 8 cm
Notions
- Polyester fibrefill (about 40 g)
- 2 x 6 mm safety eyes (or black yarn to embroider for under-3s)
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
- Pink yarn or embroidery floss for the nose
Stitches used
- Magic Ring (MR)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Increase (inc)
- Invisible Decrease (inv dec)
- Whip Stitch & Mattress Seam (seam)
- Safety Eyes & Embroidered Eyes (eyes)
- Surface Slip Stitch (surface sl st)
Notes
- Work in a continuous spiral. Never join, never turn, never chain. Mark the first stitch of each round and move the marker up.
- The head is a textbook sphere: increase to 36, work 7 straight rounds, then mirror the increases as decreases. Round n of the increase phase = 6n sts.
- Stuff firmly but do not distort — the fabric should not go see-through. Stuff before the opening drops below 18 sts or you will not get your fingers in.
