Invisible Decrease (inv dec) — crochet stitch tutorial
Closes a shape without leaving visible bumps — the difference between a lumpy and a professional amigurumi.
UK terminology: invisible double-crochet decrease
How to work it
- Insert the hook into the FRONT loop only of the next stitch. Do not yarn over — 2 loops on the hook (working loop + 1 front loop).
- Insert the hook into the FRONT loop only of the following stitch. Now 3 loops on the hook: the working loop and the 2 front loops.
- Yarn over and pull through the two front loops only — 2 loops remain on the hook.
- Yarn over and pull through both remaining loops. 2 stitches became 1.
Tips
- For flat rows, use ordinary sc2tog: pull up a loop in each of the next 2 stitches, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. Invisible decreases are best on the right side of amigurumi.
